Why it matters

The Code is becoming mandatory

DVSA published the new Driving Instructor Code of Practice in September 2026. It becomes mandatory from a date still to be confirmed, and every ADI and trainee will have to declare they've read it and will follow it when they register, renew or apply for a trainee licence.

That means having the paperwork to back it up: written terms for every pupil before their first lesson, a complaints procedure and log, a safeguarding policy, a privacy notice, written consent before you post any pass photo, and a record of your own badge, insurance, MOT and licence checks.

Most instructors we speak to can tick two or three of those. Our Compliance Pack ticks the rest.

Questions

Which pack do I need?

Solo if you teach on your own. School if you run a school, train PDIs, sponsor a trainee or have other instructors working with you.

I'm a trainee on a trainee licence. Which pack do I need?

Your pupils are taught under your sponsoring school, so they should get the school's terms and documents. Check with your school first. The Solo pack is still useful for tracking your dates and your reports to DVSA. If your school doesn't have these documents, the School pack is the right one for them.

DVSA hasn't confirmed the start date. Should I wait?

You don't need to. When DVSA confirms the date or changes the Code, you'll get the updated pack free.

Is it a subscription?

No. It's a one-off payment, and you keep access.

I'm with a franchise. Do I still need it?

The Solo pack covers your own duties under the Code. If your franchise already gives you some of these documents, use theirs and fill the gaps with ours.

What if I take on an instructor or a PDI later?

You can move up to the School pack and only pay the difference.
